Surgo gets £5 million Boost from Housing Work

Leading contractor, SURGO Construction, well known for its involvement in multi million pound education schemes, is reasserting its position within the housing sector.

At a time when the national housing market is still relatively depressed, director, Jeff Alexander, is pleased to have secured more than £5m of refurbishment and new build housing projects within the last few weeks.  He said:

“A large proportion of our work has always come from the housing sector and at the present time, whilst the residential market is still suffering from economic uncertainty, the social and affordable housing market is relatively buoyant.  It is essential that building contractors such as SURGO are sufficiently adaptable to follow market developments if they are to continue to prosper.”

Working on behalf of longstanding client, social housing provider Isos Housing Group, SURGO has been appointed to three separate projects – the construction of nine bungalows valued at £778k in Burradon where work will begin in January, a further nine dwellings at Annfield Plain for Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association worth £670k, and eight bungalows at Brandon Road, North Shields, worth £830k.

Two additional refurbishment contracts have been secured with North Tyneside Council to provide new external cladding and refurbishment works to 56 properties at Balkwell Estate, North Shields and replacement doors and windows for 180 homes at Marden Estate where the combined value is just over £2 million.

Finally, SURGO is proceeding with a £780,000 local authority contract for the upgrade and refurbishment of dwellings and external paved areas.
